Young Advisors

Children North East are the delivery partner of the Young Advisors group, who support the NENC ICS’s Child Health and Wellbeing Network by providing their thoughts and experiences of a range of healthcare-related topics such as mental health, poverty, access to services and childhood illnesses.

The Young Advisors, who are aged 11 to 17, meet every other week to explore both topics provided by the network and those they have identified as important as a group. Key parts of the discussion are then fed back to the Network and Executive Boards within the NHS. Feedback loops are created to ensure the young people understand the brilliant impact their contribution has made.

The children and young people who take part get the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills and benefit from free training, as well as making a positive impact on the lives of their peers.

Each Spring, the Advisors take part in a ‘Twitter Takeover’ of the network’s profile and answer questions on a healthcare-related theme. In the past questions have been posed by MPs, healthcare influencers and decision-makers, local government and national charities.
