Child Safety

Scrapes, bruises, breaks and bleeds are part of growing up. However, more serious childhood injuries can be predicted and prevented. So our WHOOPS! Child Safety Service helps you to prevent accidents and incidents that could cause serious injury to children. We do this through two offers to parents and children:

Home Safety Checks

Our WHOOPS! staff can visit you at home and check how safe it is for your child. This includes an expert check of your home to put in place some simple aids to prevent accidents.

Under 2’s

We can offer home safety equipment to minimise the risks of accidents occurring within the home including safety gates, cupboard locks and non-slip bath mats.

To be eligible for this support, families must have a child under the age of two, be in receipt of benefits and live in a Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) or private rented accommodation within Newcastle upon Tyne.  Non-eligible families can also pay for the service independently.

Under 5’s

We can offer home safety assessments to identify risks within the home along with guidance to increase knowledge and awareness.  We also have resource packs to help increase awareness which includes mini first aid kits, resources for adults and children along with childproof kits which can include cupboard/drawer locks, door guards and tv straps.

To be eligible for this support, families must have a child under the age of five and reside in Newcastle upon Tyne.
